What Does Psilocybin-Assisted Psychotherapy look like?
Our four-phase treatment structure ensures that you safely reap the healing benefits of this experience.
Screening: We will get to know each other, making sure we are a good fit to work together. We will determine if psilocybin is appropriate for your situation. In Colorado, diagnosis and a prescription are not required to access psilocybin assisted therapy for adults who can safely benefit. In some cases I will recommend clearance by your medical provider.
Preparation, minimum of 2 sessions: We explore your intentions and expectations, and prepare you logistically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually for the guided administration session. You will learn mindful embodiment skills and other practices to enhance your psilocybin administration experience. Additional preparation sessions are encouraged at the fee of my hourly rate.
Guided Administration Session: We will meet at a licensed healing center, where you will ingest psilocybin provided by the center. Your journey will take place in your own private space, with curated music and environmental supports. We will follow the plan we have previously designed for your safety and comfort. I will be present as a witness, guide and support for your journey. You will be encouraged to surrender into the experience and to follow where the medicine leads you. You can expect the journey to last 4-8 hours and you will get home with a pre-arranged ride with a trusted person of your choice.
Integration Therapy, minimum of 2 sessions: We will meet within 5 days of your session, and again within 14 days to explore your journey. Many experienced psychedelic teachers say that Integration is the most important part of the experience. At this time, your journey experience can be unpacked, translating to longer lasting change. This may include changes in perceptions of yourself, others, and the world around you. Without integration, the impact of a psychedelic experience may fade over time. Additional integration sessions are encouraged at the fee of my hourly rate.

Indigenous cultures in Mexico and the Americas have used psilocybin mushrooms in spiritual and religious rituals for thousands of years.
Psilocybin is a naturally occurring, non-addictive psychedelic compound found in certain mushrooms. Eating mushrooms that contain psilocybin can have a variety of effects, ranging from euphoria to hallucinations. Depending on the amount consumed, journeys typically last anywhere from 2-6 hours.
Modern clinical trials are studying psilocybin as a breakthrough treatment for mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder
-
Studies have demonstrated psilocybin to be an effective option for many suffering from depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance use disorders, pain and chronic illnesses. It can also offer a mystical experience, an increased sense of well-being and connectedness, or opportunities for self-discovery and growth. It may be especially beneficial for those who have not responded well to traditional therapies.
While the use of psilocybin is generally considered safe, there are some individuals for whom psilocybin is not recommended. During the intake process, we will determine whether or not an individual is a good fit for psilocybin. Mesoamerican and other Indigenous lineages understand the mushrooms as living, sentient entities that serve as active participants in communal and cosmic healing.
From a chemical perspective, psilocybin works by affecting certain parts of the brain that respond to serotonin, a chemical that influences how we feel and how our body functions. They work like a lock and key—serotonin fits into these areas of the brain and changes mood and body functions.
The surge in serotonin can can create changes in thought patterns and allow access to different emotions.
When psilocybin activates certain receptors, it reduces the energy needed for the brain to switch between different activity states. Through the rapid release of serotonin, individuals can have an increased ability to revisit and process memories and traumas.
The exposure also allows for periods of neuroplasticity to enable new connections and perspectives.
Research suggests that psilocybin can temporarily disrupt the brain’s default mode network (DMN). The DMN refers to parts of the brain that are most active during passive tasks and less active during tasks that require attentiveness.
By suppressing the DMN, psychedelics like psilocybin create an opportunity for new neural connections to form.
Imaging studies have found that psilocybin can increase connectivity between different brain regions that are usually separated. With the disruption of the standard organization of the brain, the belief is that thinking patterns can be more flexible.
